Description

Fuente Real’s story begins with a fictional character named Amelia, a botany scholar, and lover who traveled with her husband to the New World advising him on the sugar cane trade business. During their trips to the Caribbean, Amelia studied numerous species of exotic plants, some of which today are the main characters of Fuente Real’s beautiful gardens, highlighting the varieties of palm trees, a symbol of success and fortune after the “Americas” were born.
Mubien was approached by the managers of the famous monument “El Capricho de Gaudi” located in the seaside town of Cantabria. Together with the interior designer Coti of Pardo Interior firm they had the task to create the identity of a new boutique apartments complex located next to “El Capricho”.

The challenge not only consisted of creating a visual identity, but also memorable storytelling that managed to connect the visitor with the building’s history, making them travel back in time with today’s hospitality comfort. The aim was to work as a synchronized team with Pardo Interior to create together a unique esthetically appealing concept for the visitor.
The name and aesthetics of Fuente Real are inspired by the manager’s botany passion as well as the large rocks intended to create a large waterfall. In collaboration with Pardo Interior, we designed and built the visual universe using different colors, textures, finishes, motifs, and decorative elements.

As one of the main graphic resources, we used illustrations from a book from the Mubien collection, hand-lithographed and dated in 1883 called Flora Forestal de Filipinas. The concept behind the Fuente Real logo is simple, connecting the elements of the Palm + Fountain in the case of the main isotype and the Waterfall in the custom R of the wordmark. In addition, other series of logos and graphic elements were created to reinforce the message and provide the client with expansion tools, such as the creation of a restaurant, as well as a plant-inspired monogram (FR), and a set of customs stamps inspired by the travels of Amelia back in time
After the storytelling and identity were complete, the task continued creating all the signage and wayfinding of the hotel as well as the different murals that would be the defining element towards achieving the goal of creating a unique visual experience in Comillas, far away from any other hotel in the region.

Finally, Mubien designed and developed a personalized website, connected to the reservation management system, providing the creative direction for the photographs and visuals.
The project was a combination of different teams that made this all possible. The Fuente Real management team trusting us to create their vision, and Pardo Interior, allowing us to advise them during the process as well as contributing with ideas letting everything flow as a single team working for the same objective: create a unique, unforgettable tourism project and experience in the region.
